Gilgamesh
Class Skills #
Magic Resistance: E
Protection against magic. Incapable of invalidating magic, but somewhat reduces the damage value.
Independent Action: A+
The ability to act even in the absence of the Master. It’s already on the level where he can do as he pleases.
Divinity: B
He possesses the greatest of divine spirit aptitude, but it receives a rank down due to his dislike of the gods.
Personal Skills #
Charisma: A+
The ability to lead and command large armies.
At this point, it is no longer popularity, but a type of curse instead.
Golden Rule: A
Not a golden proportion of the body, but the fate of how much wealth follows him around in life.
He can do even multi-millionaire, goldy style. Has no money troubles for the entirety of his lives.
Collector: EX
The ability to acquire and manage items of high quality.
EX means outside the standard, but in Gilgamesh case, already various treasures are counted inside his vault in the state of “what is yours belongs to me”.1
There are also cases where, if he were presented with a target treasure, he would discover from his fault the “original” that became its basis and relabel it.

- ^ It’s a Doraemon joke, in case you didn’t get it. Gilgamesh, mankind’s oldest Jaian.
To note, this is also the skill that basically is responsible for GoB treasure paradox

Enuma Elish: Star of Genesis Which Separates Heaven and Earth
Rank | A++1 |
Type | Anti-World Noble Phantasm |
Range | 1~99 |
Maximum Number of Targets | 1000 people |
Enuma Elish.
Time and space severance by means of Ea, the Sword of Separation.
The dislocation of the wind pressure, compressed and clashing inwardly, turns into a pseudo space-time dislocation, pulverizing everything which stands to oppose it.
Its attack value cannot be defended against without using an anti-purge2 armor class or counterbalancing it using damage of the same level.
While the Sword of Separation, Ea, is categorized as a sword, in itself it is close to that of a staff. Its three lithograph each represents heaven, earth, and underworld; They each rotate to a different direction, which represents how the world is. All three together represents the universe.
Possessing output that equal to or even greater than Artoria’s Excalbur, it is the sword that “tears the world.”
Translator’s Notes
- ^ Post interlude, it’s EX. SOmetimes GO mats gives out ranks depending on ingame rank and not actual rank.
- ^ Fun thing I found. I had always thought it to be 粛清 (shukusei), which means (political) purge, but it apparently is 粛正 (shukusei), which means enforcement. They are both political terms. The difference would be, 粛清 is the desire to make disappear not only things that are unjust and impure, but also EVERYTHING that stands in your way. Basically, press ctrl+delete on anyone that is a nuisance for you.
Whereas 粛正, the terms being used for Enuma Elish here, is the desire to remove all that is unjust and impure, and then returns to proper form. Basically, use ctrl+find then replace things that are bad with better things.
I feel like this is important, because this strengthen the image that Enuma Elish is not an attack that only pulverizes, but also sorta drive home the concept that Enuma Elish was also an attack that rebuilds, which ties in to how Ea (drill) is the power used by Ea (god) to separate heaven and earth from its chaotic state and then builds bunch of cool things, like human civilization and stuffs.
Technically, both is still purge if you squint at it the right way. Just that the one used here has a more positive connotation.

Third-person pronoun | omaetachi / kisamara / 〇〇 (without honorifics) |
Personality
Brutal, ruthless. With a golden armor set, splendour beyond limit, he is an extraordinary Heroic Spirit with superfluous treasures that he unleashes as if they are water.
With neither blood nor tears, he is a hero who carries to the extreme and enjoys all manners of treasure and pleasure.
The opinion of people does not reach his ears, and the only thing he takes as absolute is his own standard; a tyrant who empathizes not with the thought of others or their way of being.
However, possessing no empathy does not mean he holds no interest.
When confronted with unknown existence of concept, he would show a curiosity like a child would; yet he would also abandon it out of boredom or having decided that he had completely got to the end of it like a child would.
He treats and judges both good and evil equally.
As far as Gilgamesh is concerned, life is no other than whether you “die immediately” or “die eventually”.
Should he recognize a “life that should die immediately”, then he would end it, be it even the life of a wise one.
A judgement as if equal the truth of the universe;
An evil rule during times of intoxication and beyond recollection;
when he does something, he does so with the arbitration of a king.
For that is what an absolute monarch is.
While he is moody in nature, there are no(t much) moments where he does something personally using bad mood as the pretext.
Occasions when he ends the life of others would be when their soul turns repulsive, or when they themselves bare their hostility toward Gilgamesh.
Motivation · Attitude towards Master
During his live, he had once wish for immortality, yet after obtaining the miraculous medicine he ended up losing his interest on it upon it being stolen by a snake.
He, who had become a Heroic Spirit, possesses no wish to entrust upon the Holy Grail. To begin with, be it the Holy Grail or Noble Phantasm, he considers all things in creation to be his possession; based on that, the reason he responds to the Holy Grail summons is to punish as a king those who scrambles for what is his.
He manifests as an Archer, in possession of the Independent Action Skill; should the Master is someone he has no interest on, he may very well turn against them. Of course, as far as he is concerned even the Master is no more than his attendant, albeit one who would never think of the likes of betrayal.
During Fuyuki’s Fifth Holy Grail War, he had planned to cull the excessively multiplying mankind; however, this is a deliberation caused by taking in the inside of the Holy Grail, “All of the World’s Evil”, incarnated by it, and becoming inclined to modern civilization; quite far off from the neutral Gilgamesh of the age of the gods.
Dialogue Examples
“Do not make light of me. What manner of hero would I be, if I could not even take in this amount of curse? All the evil of this world? Hah! Bring three times that amount if you wish to dye me with it.
Understood, Saber? Heroes are those who bear responsibility of all human being within their view. -----------And I had long since bear all of the world.”
“What is a king, if not arrogant!?”
“How dare you-----how dare you, howdareyouhowdareyouhowdareyouhowdareyouhowdareyou…!”
“Fool! I have not even the slightest intention to die…! You stay there until I pull myself out!”
“Thoughts extolling desperation; an agreeable start!”
Historical Image · Character Image
The king of Uruk, a city state of ancient Mesopotamia.
It began with the “Epic of Gilgamesh”, said to be the oldest epic of a hero; he appeared in Mesopotamia ancient tale, and thus is called the king of heroes.
He was a warrior excelling and proficient in handling arms, flushing out youths in the war against other city states while rebelling against the elders. The gods, who heard of the lamentation of the parents who lost their child in the war, grant to him an equal friend, and thereafter they both went on adventures together.
They had made various exploits, such as defeating the monster of the forest Humbaba; however, by the design of Ishtar, whose allure he had severely spurned, he lost his friend and ended up fearing death.
Gilgamesh, who wished for the secret of immortality, went to meet the sage who had lived on since the age of the great flood, Utnapishtim. And although through the sage’s advice he was able to get in his hand the miraculous medicine of immortality, it was eaten by a snake when he had momentarily let his guard down for but a small period of time.
Role within the Game, Selling Point
Compared to the original works, he plays less of an active role.
In his interludes, in a manner of very much like him, many times he would appraises the Master of whether or not they are worthy of his interest and bestow trials upon them. By his words, “Mankind does not have any value; but the things mankind made does.” Perhaps that belief of his is one of the reason he is quite particular with his treasures.
Role in Past Works
In two of Fate/stay night routes, he appears in a last boss-like role. In contrast with Saber (Artoria), who was consecutively summoned in the fourth and the fifth war, he stayed as he was as an Archer of the fourth war.
In this work, his ability and personality are of the extreme antithesis of those on the protagonist’s side, and so he is completely on the opposing side. However, in Fate/hollow ataraxia, he reclaims another aspect of his unique way of being as the “King of Heroes”, and then in Fate/Zero his character and true motive was reaffirmed.
In Fate/EXTRA CCC, because he is one of the main Servant of the neutral character protagonist, he is inclined to neither good nor evil, bewitching with his behaviour as a “hero of the age of the gods”. In the short story of Fate/strange fake, he was summoned together with a hero he possesses deep bond with during his live, depicting the figure of his in great joy of their reunion and rematch.
Connections with Characters
Artoria
That figure of hers, floundering on the ground as she aim (wish) for the unreachable ideal----truly is the only star that can be found above ground.
The star is something beyond reach, be it from the heaven or earth. And so it is beautiful.
Cu Chulainn
“At last, I have ascertained why you grate on my nerves so! It is because your way of being as a king is simply directly opposite of mine!”
Karna
Having low self-assertion is a fault; however, he see no other fault with Karna. In particular is that golden armor; truly excellent. He dare say he has the second best sense in this world.
Enkidu
No comment.
Ishtar
“Fuhaha! Let me tell you, goddess! You would be the result if one combine together a swarm of locust, a sandstorm, and the temper of a child!”
Fate Encyclopedia #
The Archer of the previous Grail War. Mankind’s oldest king of heroes, who defeated Saber. For more details, refer to his status screen in the game.
As no proper Heroic Spirit can match this man, he could be called the “Servant Killer.”
Without a doubt, he is the strongest existence amongst the Servants.
Though he lost due to obsession against Saber…
Though he lost due to pride against Shirou…
Though he lost due to carelessness against XXXXX…
…The fact of the matter is that if he actually gets serious, he is a Servant that cannot be rivaled.
Perhaps because he has been living in human society for the past ten years, he seems to be hip on the latest fashions. He owns various casual clothes, but his favorite is the biker outfit he wore in the Rin route.
Well, he liked it enough to overlook Shirou’s group and leave instead of letting it get dirty, at any rate. I can’t believe the protagonist’s life was worth less to Gil than his coat…!
It might seem strange how Gil could live in human society for ten years with a personality like his and not cause a fuss, but Gil must have realized it would have been a problem, too, because apparently he drank a certain Noble Phantasm to change his appearance and personality.
Also, during the design stage, I selfishly insisted that “Gil absolutely has to wear full golden plate armor.”
Why, you ask? Well, it might be because I was repeatedly challenging a certain 60 story tower at the time…
Fate/Zero Encyclopedia #
The Archer class Servant of the Fourth Holy Grail War. Though he was summoned by Tohsaka Tokiomi, he ended up deserting his master and re-contracting with Kotomine Kirei. He is the strongest character in both Fate/stay night and Fate/Zero.
In the boy-meets-girl story of the original Fate/stay night he was forced to yield to the universal law of “love conquers all,” but in Fate/Zero he’s free to show off his overwhelming, cheat-like strength without restraint. He could have ended the war in a single night if he truly desired to do so. But then, careless pride is the king’s prerogative, and getting serious over something as frivolous as a wish-granter would be unbecoming. So, taking that into account, it sort of balances out the huge disparity in firepower… I guess?
Also, the reason that he was able to splendidly escape after being swallowed by Angra Mainyu at the end of Fate/Zero despite succumbing to the same thing in the Sakura route of Fate/stay night is because in the latter he was distracted by the presence of a naked girl.
…Just kidding! Actually, it was due to the difference in power between the “mud,” which was cut off from its source, and the “shadow” which was connected directly to it.
Encyclopedia of Fate/EXTRA #
Gilgamesh is one of the main Servants newly made available in CCC.
He is a half-god, half-human who is the most ancient hero in human history. His origins go back to before the common era. He ruled the Sumerian city of Uruk.
Gilgamesh is ruthless and unfeeling. He is a tyrant who considers his own standards and rules to be absolute above all, so he has no ear for the opinion of humans.
Like Red Archer, this guy has also been explained to death in various Type-Moon works, so there isn’t much in specific to talk about here.
His standard powers, abilities, and character setting have been tuned a bit to fit into the EXTRA world, but he is more or less the same Gil as always.
He is an exceptional Heroic Spirit who proudly flaunts his ornate golden armor. He uses his overly abundant treasures and wealth as if he is trying to get rid of them.
He refers to himself with オレ [ore] but writes it as 我 [which is usually pronounced ware, but Gil pronounces it ore].
His alignment is chaotic good.
He is a cold-blooded tyrant who has had a fun life pursuing all the world’s treasures and pleasures to the limit.
He is a temperamental person, but he doesn’t (usually) doll out the pain simply because he is in a bad mood.
When he does end someone’s life, it’s because they have a disgusting evil soul, or because they are trying to oppose him.
He is a King who lays down judgment equally to all, regardless if they are good or evil.
His absolute standards all revolved around “himself” so he has no sympathy or consideration for the ideas of others.
As far as Gilgamesh is concerned, life is only ever “something that will die right now” or “something that will eventually die.”
If Gilgamesh decides that you are “a life that should die now” it doesn’t matter if you are a wise old man, you’ll be slaughtered.
“What the heck!? So basically you’re just saying that he pays no heed to his rules or conditions, and it all depends on how Gilgamesh is feeling that day!” It’s unavoidable that you want to point this out, but that’s just how being a King is.
Whether his judgment aligns perfectly with the truth of the universe, or he abuses his power in a drunken stupor, whatever he does, his actions as King are indisputable.
This is what it means to be an absolute ruler.
Some may see Gilgamesh’s very egocentric nature as similar to Iskandar’s, but there is one respect in which the two differ greatly. Gilgamesh has no need for vassals.
Gilgamesh is a king who reigns alone from start to finish. He loves “treasure” and “tools.” While “people” are simply things that will eventually disappear.
…No matter how worthy of love a person may be. No matter if he recognizes they are worthy of love.
Also, when it comes to CCC’s main theme, girl problems can’t be avoided [he can’t easily find a girl he likes].
Gil’s type of woman is a “noble maiden” (And when he appears as Young Gil he prefers “wildflower” type girls).
He hates women who, despite continually depending on men, try to manipulate and use men. In other words he dislikes “girlish” women.
Moon Cell reincarnated Gilgamesh after reconstructing him, but Gilgamesh was still unable to be controlled, so Moon Cell sealed him away by sending him to the far side of the Moon.
Gilgamesh didn’t see there being any meaning in the Holy Grail War, so somewhere in the darkness of the far side of the Moon (the sea of corrupted information) he made himself a room to sleep and dozed away to his degenerate dreams.
Unlike the other Servants, Gilgamesh has no intention of making a contract with a Master. Ally of no one. Needed by no one. Perfectly happy idling his time away. However, the fool (the protagonist) who fell down into the hell that is the far side of the Moon spouted some rubbish that were quite amusing to Gil, so he woke from his slumber to interfere a bit. That’s what started their story.
Since Gil had been dozing off in hell for a nearly infinite amount of time, both his body and mind were rusty.
Some players might think that Gil is finally making an appearance without his conceited attitude, but that attitude is part of his default character (I’m sure you didn’t know…).
The difficult of clearing the game with each Servant depends on their “cheatability.” As far as Gil is concerned, until his cheat-tier Noble Phantasm is unlocked, the game is about the same difficulty as when using Red Saber.
His Noble Phantasm causes an insane amount of damage, to the point where I’m rather worried about the balance of the latter half of the game.
Battles might end up being pretty bad if they are just Gil attacks → enemy insta-dead.
So that’s pretty much the story about our AUO1. Since he is an allied Servant, his relationship with the protagonist eventually reaches the point of mutual trust, and after engaging in some casual chit-chat his Secret Garden will become available to you.
Also, since Gil has not been incarnated into the alternate history world of EXTRA, the modern civilization of EXTRA has not influenced him in the slightest. In CCC he appears as a more neutral incarnation based on the Age of Gods version of Gilgamesh, and one might occasionally see his more casual, personal side.

Encyclopedia of Fate EXTELLA #
A Servant in Altera’s army. He has declared himself her second-in-command.
The King of Uruk, capital of ancient Mesopotamia.
He appears in ancient Mesopotamian legends, beginning with the Epic of Gilgamesh, which is said to be the oldest epic poem.
He is born of a union between god and man, and lays claim to all of the world’s myriad treasures as the “King of Heroes.”
Like Iskandar, he is a Top Servant.
Although the other two (knight-class) Servants of his rank were summoned by the Moon Cell, Gilgamesh appeared in this land of his own volition by ripping apart the border (when it fluctuated) inside SE.RA.PH that separates the Near Side of the moon from the Far Side.
(Note: Typically only those of 〇〇〇〇 class possess the skill to descend on the world of its own volition, but in the Extra Universe this is just barely within the rules.)
He has no connection to the Heroic Spirit Altera, but does have a previous connection with the White Titan on Earth, and so he lends his aid just this once in order to fulfill an obligation he made in the past.
He also has memories of the events that occurred on the Far Side of the Moon. However, neither the Main Character nor Altera know that this is the biggest reason for him joining Altera’s side.
Comment from Illustrator #
The degree of how much his armor is completed already is kinda high, so I can’t really add or take away anything. So the design evolution ends up having no twist whatsoever.
And still he has hell of a presence; as expected from the King of Heroes. (Takeuchi Takashi)
